The only things we have in our life are those things we love or are in harmony with. If a person remains in close proximity with something – be it another person or an object – it can only be because the person is in harmonious vibration with them. We are always moving towards that which we secretly most love. But what if we secretly love to hate? What if we love to hate clutter, for example, more than we love to love space?
This is a story of an old Cherokee teaching his grandson about life.
'A fight is going on inside me’, he said to the boy. ‘It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person too.’ The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, ‘Which wolf will win?’ The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed’.
At first glance, you may believe that you’re feeding the ‘good’ wolf. But when you dig a little deeper, you may discover that you are actually feeding the ‘evil’ wolf.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHICH WOLF YOU ARE FEEDING?
Easy.
Is your life filled with possessions, people or ideas that generate ‘good’ feelings such as LOVE, JOY, PEACE, COMPASSION, KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, TRUTH? Or is your life filled with things that generate ‘evil’ feelings such as GUILT, SHAME, FEAR, LIES, PITY, and EGO?
Take a look around your home. Is there anything that stirs up unpleasant feelings? Maybe it’s the ugly dining table and chairs occupying so much space you keep vowing to get rid of. Maybe it’s the hideous doona cover you keep complaining about. Maybe it’s all the junk living in the garage frustrating you because you’re unable to park your car in there. Or maybe your closet makes you miserable because it’s filled with clothes that no longer fit you.
If your home is filled with things that stir up ‘evil’ feelings, and you cannot bring yourself to get rid of them for whatever reason, then the truth is you actually love them; that is, you secretly love to hate them...which means you are actually feeding the ‘evil’ wolf.
Now before you go on a de-cluttering rampage throwing out everything and anything that suggests you are feeding the ‘evil’ wolf, just PAUSE. That’s the last thing you want to do. Unless, of course, you want to end up right back where you started – a big beautiful space filled with more shit than before.
De-cluttering is like dieting. People who lose heaps of weight in a short amount of time, usually put all back on again. Why??? Because surface changes made without the necessary internal shifts are just hollow pursuits of what you ‘think’ will make you happy.
So next time you find yourself struggling to get rid of something, dig a little deeper and discover why you are holding on to it. It will more than likely stem back to doubt, guilt, fear, resentment, and thoughts of lack or limitation. When you can resolve yourself to letting go of all of these obstructions, then you’ll naturally also let go of all the things that no longer serve you. And in doing so, you’ll create space for the good that you truly desire and live a life filled with things that you truly love.
